Investment & Sizes

All portraits included a soft, muted background.  Backgrounds with specific environments or architecture will increase the total cost and can be discussed during the initial consultation.  All Exquisite Oil paintings included a professionally made linen canvas free of charge.  I am also skilled in hand building and stretching traditional linen canvases in the style of the old masters, attached with copper tacks and layer upon layer of hand finished gesso at an additional charge which is dependent of the size; please ask for more information if you are interested in this fine substrate.  Payments can be made in installments, more information on that is in Getting Started below.

The pricing below is for one subject, additional animal subjects can be added to the composition for half of that original cost.  To add additional animal subjects please note the larger size needed to accommodate a more involved composition.  To commission a work with people and animals please see my section for Portraits of People.

Getting Started

As people rarely have time to "sit" for portraits these days, and animals certainly do not, it must begin with photographs.  It is important to have decent reference images for the creation of a high quality portrait but if you do not have that one perfect image, I can work from multiple photos.  Please email me 1-5 photographs with the highest resolution possible.  I will review your images and give you feedback and request additional images if needed.

Together, we will establish a sense of direction for the piece, gather all the needed imagery and agree on the composition; at that point the client will complete a small deposit (10% of the final cost) to be added to my client registrar.  Once the deposit is completed, I will create a mock up sketch or composite image to represent the composition for you to review.  We will finalize the commission with an agreement outlining all of the elements of our arrangement and at that time the client will complete a 40% payment of the final amount.  At that point your substrate will be built or ordered and the actual creation of the artwork will begin.

It will take time for your image to be created and paintings often go through various stages of development before they begin to clearly resemble the final finished work.  So with patience and trust, in time you will see your commission meet and exceed your expectations.  I am committed to your full satisfaction and work closely with you for reflection and inspiration as I create your image.  I will send you updates and you can watch the process in my blog and on social media.  As we reach the final stages of completion I will contact you for the final review.

Of course, it is preferable for the client to view the work in person, but if circumstances should not permit, you can approve the final work through high resolution images.  Once the client has approved the completed work, the final payment plus shipping/insurance is due.  Then the artwork is ready to go home either by pick-up or sent through the mail.
